Chiavari: The future fifth Ligurian province
Chiavari is the second most populated municipal district. Also it is the third city of the province after Genoa and Rapallo. If you consider its urban area, Chiavari is the eighth city of the region preceded only by Sarzana, Sanremo, Ventimiglia, and Rapallo. It was already an important center during Napoleon and during its annexation to the kingdom of Sardinia in 1815 (1817-1859). Chiavari is still a very important center and place of reference for all the valleys in the interior of Chiavari. In the last few years, Chiavari was proposed as the fifth Ligurian province. It is also an important judicial center on the eastern coast of Genoa. Since 1982 Chiavari has been the center for the local diocese.
